This week DockYard will join Elixirists from around the world to attend ElixirConf 2023, the premier conference for Elixir developers and enthusiasts.
We’re thrilled that several DockYarders will be presenting at ElixirConf 2023 on topics ranging from the latest advances in native development with Elixir to Beacon, Elixir-first CMS, and Elixir game development.
Read on to learn more about what our DockYarders will be covering, and don’t forget to add their talks to your conference schedule:
DockYard Keynote: LiveView Native
DockYard CEO and Founder Brian Cardarella will close out day one of ElixirConf with a keynote address on the latest developments with LiveView Native.
First announced at ElixirConf 2022, LiveView Native is the first native development framework for Elixir. It uses Phoenix to serve mobile native and web application views, resulting in a faster, lightweight application that previously would have required significant JavaScript support.
With LiveView Native, a single team can manage the front and back ends of an application with the same skill set, meaning there’s no need to manage multiple teams for different technologies. That translates to faster, lower-cost development for startup and enterprise teams alike.
During his keynote, Cardarella will cover the latest LiveView Native advancements. Among other topics, he’ll cover how LiveView Native gives Elixir teams the ability to create native apps magnitudes faster than teams using competing languages.

Beacon: The next generation of CMS in Phoenix LiveView
Senior Software Engineer Leandro Pereira will dive into another recent addition to the Elixir Ecosystem: Beacon, the Phoenix-based content management system (CMS).
Also announced at ElixirConf 2022, Beacon is built with Phoenix LiveView to give Elixir developers a CMS option without having to leave the Elixir ecosystem. Because Beacon is built with LiveView, users gain the server-side rendering of Phoenix, resulting in fast load times on even content-heavy pages. That translates to better SEO performance and an edge over competitors.
DockYard currently uses Beacon to power more than 700 dynamic pages for our new website.
During his talk, Pereira will cover how Beacon functions, including HEEx template compilation and rendering, module reloading time, embedding Phoenix LiveView, and more.

Exploring LiveViewNative
Elixir Instructor Brooklin Myers will walk through LiveView Native development during his ElixirConf presentation.
For more than a year, DockYard has continued developing LiveView Native to bring native Elixir development to iOS and Android, and we’ve made significant progress in expanding LiveView Native’s capabilities and use cases.
During his talk, Myers will cover native application development using LiveView Native for iOS, Android, and more.

ECSx: A New Approach to Game Development in Elixir
Senior Elixir Engineer Andrew Berrien will present on ECSx, a new framework he developed to make game development in Elixir possible.
Berrien spent more than a year developing ECSx to address many of the common roadblocks that previously prevented Elixir gamedev, chief among them a lack of dedicated game development libraries. Now Elixir developers can create games faster and easier than ever.
During his talk, Berrien will cover how the ECSx framework manages game data and logic, examples of building an app with the ECSx API, how to use the ECSx LiveDashboard page to monitor app performance, and more.
